Due to the interest in our new Portable English Mount – PEM, which was launched at the Astrofest in London this year, we have asked to produce a smaller version, the Mini Portable English Mount or Mini PEM.

We are currently taking the PEM design and reducing it in size to a smaller mount.

The Mini PEM will have the same capabilities as Fullerscope MK IV but with GOTO (standalone).

Here are some basic specifications:

  • Design – State of the art modelling CAD design software.
  • Stability – Very stable, accurate and strong construction.
  • Housing – It will look very similar to the PEM in stainless steel but smaller.
  • Bearings – Stiff tapered thrust and roller bearings.
  • Worm wheels – 6 inch wheels. Dural as standard, Phosphor Bronze available.
  • Shafts – 45mm diameter stainless.
  • Motors – smaller but powerful 1A/ph stepper motors.
  • Drive System – Standard AWR Microstepping drive system.
  • Weight – Mount target weight 25kg.
  • Payload – 50kg at least.
  • Encoders – no option with this smaller mount.
  • Astrophotography – Low periodic error by the precision worm wheel sets.
  • Price – Target price of around 4K + VAT but this will be confirmed shortly.
  • The machining has started on the prototype for the first Mini PEM. After testing in May it will be available in June 2017.
